Benjamin Alderson serves as a senior area manager of deVere USA, Inc., where he has worked since 2012. In his free time, Benjamin Alderson enjoys eating Indian and Chinese food and spending time with his wife and children.

In addition to being delicious, Indian food is also one of the healthiest diets in the world. This is due in part to the different spices the cuisine incorporates, especially ginger, turmeric, cardamom, and coriander.

In addition to relieving inflammation and osteoarthritis pain, ginger has been shown to help with the GI tract, moving food from the stomach to the small intestine for absorption. Tumeric is a relative of ginger and comes with its own benefits. An antioxidant, it has also been used for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Cardamom is used as a digestive aid and has been shown to lower blood pressure in laboratory animals. Finally, cordiander offers anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits, and recent research suggests the herb can lower LDL cholesterol levels while raising HDL levels.

An experienced financial services executive, Benjamin Alderson serves as a senior area manager for deVere USA, Inc. In addition to his activities at the financial advisory firm, Benjamin Alderson supports several nonprofit organizations, including Oxfam International.

Oxfam staff have been working on the ground in Ecuador recently following a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on April 16, 2016. The quake and subsequent aftershocks took hundreds of lives and caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure throughout the region.

Currently, Oxfam is focusing its efforts on the communities of Portoviejo and Pedernales, where widespread damage to the cities’ water systems have left residents without access to clean water. Oxfam is working in partnership with local government and other aid agencies to replace water pipes and establish a distribution system to deliver water to locals.

Oxfam will continue to support recovery efforts in Portoviejo, Pedernales, and other affected Ecuadorian communities until at least August. For more information, or to support the organization’s work in the country, visit www.oxfam.org.
